The History Behind The Learning Curve

“Our species needs, and deserves, a citizenry with minds wide awake and a basic understanding of how the world works. . . .
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”
  CARL SAGAN

Mr. Juan Stephen Gray, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, came to Mississippi to attend college in 1984. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Alcorn State University. This set the stage for the operation of his very own business.

Mr. Gray had a vision that he wanted to “help others to help themselves.” As a result, in 1988 he formed Gray & Associates, Inc, a nonprofit organization. The company achieved its 501c3 status 5 years later.

The organization’s first mission was to help rural communities obtain economic assistance to help poor residents. This was done in the form of writing grants and helping find government funds for programs in Jefferson County, MIssissippi. Later, the organization formed a daycare center to help working mothers afford quality childcare. The center was destroyed in a fire in early 2002.

By then the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was in effect and low-performing public schools were in need of service providers to proffer after school tutoring services. Gray & Associates, Inc./The Learning Curve was approved by the Mississippi Department of Education as a provider to carry out these educational services.

The organization has been providing educational services to the community and to the state since 2002 in the form of:

Supplemental Educational Services
After School Tutoring Programs
Private Tutoring
Job Training Programs
ACT Workshops
Community Education Seminars
